This Privacy Policy explains how About Autism collects, uses, and protects your personal data when you visit this website, contact us, or sign up to receive our newsletter or a free guide. We are committed to handling your data fairly and openly. We comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Who we are
About Autism provides autism training, consultancy, and speaking services. For the purposes of data protection law, the data controller is About Autism. If you have any questions about this policy or your personal data, contact us at hello@aboutautism.co.uk.
What data we collect
When you contact us, subscribe to the newsletter, or download a free guide, we collect only the information you choose to give us:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your organisation, where you choose to provide it
- The content of any message or enquiry you send us
When you simply browse the site, our website host and our analytics tools may also collect limited technical information automatically, such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you view. This helps keep the site secure and working properly. We do not collect special category data (such as health or disability information) and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Why we use your data and our lawful basis
- To reply to your enquiry and discuss our services, under our legitimate interest in running the business.
- To send you the newsletter or a free guide you have requested, with your consent given at the point of signup.
- To keep basic records of correspondence, under our legitimate interest in maintaining accurate business records.
- To keep the site secure and understand how it is used, using essential cookies (necessary for the site to work) and, with your consent, analytics cookies.
Cookies and tracking
This site uses essential cookies that are needed to make it work and to remember your cookie choices. With your consent, we also use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. Analytics cookies are only set after you accept them in our cookie banner. You can decline, or change your choice at any time, using the cookie settings on the site. We do not use advertising cookies and we do not sell your data to advertisers.
Who we share your data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers who help us run this website and our mailing list, and only so far as they need it to provide their service to us. They act under written contracts that require them to protect your data. These providers include:
- Our website host (Hostinger), which stores the website and its server logs.
- Our email and newsletter platform (Kit, also known as ConvertKit), which manages newsletter and free-guide signups and delivers those emails. New subscribers confirm their address by double opt-in.
- Our analytics provider (Google Analytics), used only where you have given consent.
We may also disclose data if required to do so by law.
International transfers
Some of our providers, including Kit and Google, are based in the United States or process data outside the UK. Where your data is transferred outside the UK, it is protected by appropriate safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as UK adequacy regulations, the UK extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, or standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep your data
- Enquiries and correspondence: up to 24 months from our last contact, then deleted.
- Newsletter and guide subscribers: until you unsubscribe. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.

This site is served over a secure (HTTPS) connection, and we use reputable service providers who maintain their own security measures. While no website can be completely secure, we take reasonable steps to protect your personal data against loss, misuse, and unauthorised access. Our ICO registration number is ZC104539.
